Only a month ago...

Today is exactly one month since I left for Haiti.

Just one month.

It seems like yesterday and at the same time it seems like a lifetime ago.

I want to go back and that seems hard for many to understand. Unless you stand on that fractured island and share a moment in life with people who have endured so much and yet are full of “joie de vivre”, you can’t understand.

For me, this transition home has been difficult. And maybe that is how it is when you go on a mission trip like this. The scales are off my eyes. My vision is no longer myopic. It is panoramic.

  2. I like the way you ended your post. Instead of having narrow vision, now it's more open. May we see through the eyes of the Lord, His ways and thoughts being higher than ours. Blessings to you sister.

  3. Thank you Denise for sharing your heart with us your readers through this post and photos. Haiti has served to be a grim reminder to us that the end is near, and that anywhere in the world we all live one step away from tribulation and destruction.

You are blessed to have your vision altered forever -- from myopic to panoramic...I love that.

It is always good to reconnect with you, Denise.

It is amazing, but really, I often feel the way you do as I read your posts.

    Love

  4. Thank you for your heart!! I have never been able to go on a mission trip but a couple of my kids have. I remember when my daughter returned from her first one, she would lay on her bed and cry for the longest time and tell me that she was so glad to be home, but she really just wanted to go back. I believe it is the true heart for people we are supposed to have. You are blessed to have had your eyes opened to these people. Love, Angel

  5. Thanks for sharing this. Sometimes I look at pictures from Haiti and wonder if I'm looking at our sponsor children unaware.

We learned one was injured, but I don't know her current status. Thanks for sharing this.

  6. My rubble is so small and so insignificant, compared to theirs. So very humbling and I'll be remembering these images. And counting the blessings in my own fallen buildings.

  7. I keep hearing this...how hard it is to leave behind. I think it speaks to our need to give, to be needed.

What a beautiful heart you have, Denise.

  8. My friends here say the same. So much so, in fact, that one couple is now building a home in Haiti. They can't NOT be there.

God bless you as you continue to minister to the people of Haiti.

  9. Wow - a month. Seems like you just left doesn't it? I still feel that way and it's been a little over a year since I got back from Zambia. I'm loving the new vision - don't lose it! Love you, friend.

  10. Panoramic living...

    A good way to live.

And yes, I do think I understand your heart stirring... at least a little.

May the tenderness of God be your portion as you reflect and remember.

  14. I feel the same way about God shaking me up to humble me so He could shape my "NEW" heart for Him!..about 12 years ago. Now I am a Soldier of Christ, and write a Christian based Blog: TOM'S JOURNAL. I joined your fine Blog too.

  15. Denise,
It's so wonderful to "meet" you. I've been back from Haiti for two months and I know exactly what you're writing about. My spirit has been seared by the experience and the people. Like you, I ache to go back again. Although until that happens I've been living through the stories of my friends who have traveled after me...soaking in their pictures...delighting in their stories. I look forward to reading more about your Haiti experience. May God use your time there to open your eyes to a whole new way of living for His glory.

    Bondye bene ou!
