Rest In Peace

And I said to the one who stood at the gate of the year, “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the Unknown.” And he replied, “Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”
Minnie Haskins

(my mother-in-law at her first time at the beach EVER -October 2009)

So, this dear friends is where I have been – learning to say goodbye.

My mother-in-law fought valiantly but her body failed her. The doctors, nurses, machines and medicines tried to change the course of fate but it was not to be. On January 6, 2010 with her family bedside, the machines stopped and so did the world, for one brief moment.

Collectively, we have said our goodbyes and shed our tears.

Privately, we are learning that grief lingers in corners and closets. This is not how a new year should begin.

2010
Be kind to me, I pray.
Your beginning has not been welcomed.
I beg of you that the days to come be kinder and gentler.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. I am very familiar with January grief. A brain tumor hastened my 13 yo daughter into the presence of the Lord on 01/15/2003 and my favorite grandmother the morning of my daughter's funeral, 01/20/2003. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy does come in the morning. I pray for your peace.

  4. Lord, there are no words I can speak for so great a loss. You know exactly what Denise and her husband need to hear. I pray that You will see to it that the right words are spoken in the right moment, by the right person. Please breathe Your peace and comfort to these dear ones, Lord. I ask in Jesus name, for His glory. Amen.

  5. I beg the same; I have a close friend who's just been told by her dr.s that they are out of options. She's 38, wife and mother of two young sons. Cancer. Again. Her words to my husband this morning, "Soon I will be with Him."

I cannot imagine, but am having to do so. Grief forces all of our hands, does it not? Calls into question our many questions.

I'm lingering with them today... again, and my heart hurts.

As I contemplate and pray, I pray for you and your husband as well. Thanks for sharing this request with me; you all have been close to my heart.

  6. So sorry for your loss. Hoping 2010is a year that'll end with the oil of joy where mourning began. I'll be back here to your "place" to journey with you in it, this year of 2010. And for this day, today, a prayer already up for His comfort to visit each one touched by the loss.

  10. I'm so sorry. That's certainly a difficult way to start the year. May 2010 be a year of comfort and healing, the kind only God can bring.
